Surveys
Our cross-regional survey was unique as an example of Participant Action Research (PAR). Ten researchers – themselves English speaking seniors - from across the selected regions were trained and assumed responsibility for working with local organizations to recruit respondents, and to distribute and collect the surveys. Our project survey questionnaire was distributed among English-speaking seniors 55 years of age and over who live in eight of Quebec’s administrative regions:
We chose to survey these eight regions because they account for 96 per cent of Quebec’s 55 plus English-speaking Quebecers. They are also regions which capture the range of environments in which English-speaking seniors are located - urban, semi-urban, rural and isolated. A total of 835 respondents filled out this survey.
